Job scam quick guide: it's a scam if...

  • they want you to collect and forward money in any way (a "money mule" job). You'll wind up engaged in money laundering, personally defrauded via expertly forged cheques, money orders, etc, or defrauding someone else who pays for goods that never arrive.
  • they want you to receive packages and reship them somewhere else. The goods will have been obtained fraudulently, and they're just using you to make the shipping address appear local. You will be aiding fraud.
  • they want up-front payment (either to them or someone else) of any sort for anything before you can get the job. This is advance fee fraud: there is no job -- it's just a big con to extract money from you.
  • they want you to buy any kind of "membership" or "kit" in order to start. Forget it -- it's not a real job at all: they're trying to sell you something, and they're probably making a bunch of other false claims about it if they're pitching it as a "job".
  • it's a job offer, and it's spam. There are LOTS of these scams about, as you can see.

ABOUT THE JOB
We have sales representatives all over the world to distribute our

competitors, close direct contacts between suppliers and customers and
other difficulties, which impede our sales promotion. We have decided
to deliver the products upfront, it's very risky but it should push up
sales on 25 percent. We need to get payments for our products as soon
as possible. Unfortunately we are unable to open Bank Accounts in the
United US around Europe, and Canada without first registering the
company name.
Presently with the amount of Orders we have, we cannot put them on

cannot cash these payments from the US around Europe, and Canada soon
enough, as international Checks take about 14 working days for cash to
be made available.
We lose about 75,000 USD of net income each month because we have money
transfer delays.
You are not involved in any sales. Once orders are received and
sorted, we deliver the product to a customer (usually through
FEDEX/UPS).The customer receives and checks the products. After this
has been done the customer has to pay for the products. About 90
percent of our customers prefer to pay through Certified Cheque and
Money orders based on the amount involved.
YOUR TASK ARE:

cashed in your bank or other Cashing Services. Deduct your weekly
salary and forward the balance to the company via western union money
transfer or Money Gram. We understand it is an unusual and incredible
job position. This job takes only 3-7 hours per week. You'll have a
lot of free time doing another job, you'll get good income and regular

Thanks for telling me this. It ought to be against the US Law to even advertise this type of scam. Go after these people and put a stop to it.

I did a job for a company called Infotech. The person of contact name was Barnes Cole. Do not accept this offer of employment. I never got paid. I accepted a shipment at my home and it was picked up and delivered. I haven't heard from him anymore. Who can I report this to and get something done? I reported it to the Federal Trade Commission already.

This scam was attempted at my email address at 11:52 AM on Aug
07, 2008. The first giveaway was the mispelled words and poor grammar. My email has been inundated with scam attempts, from my being a recipient of huge amounts of money to benefit Africa to this John Kelly scam. My discernment has been heightened to the point that I have started a folder on my computer for Fraud attempts which contains approximately 30 attempts. Keep up your good work to assist resistance to these scams. How can we get the FBI interested in these attempts?

This was the email I got last nightat 11:20 pm. I was curious, not because I am looking for additional income, but because of all of the scams out there. Of course, this is a scam. Notice the spelling of John Kelly's name (should be Kelley).

I scambaited this turkey three times under different aliases. Told him I'd received the client payment, and he'd send me weird instructions on who to forward it to via Western Union. Then I'd play "Let's Renegotiate My Salary" with him, gradually upping the percentage of my "hold" until he'd threaten me with legal action if I didn't forward the money.

What a hoot ;)

Thank you for sending me a brief idea of what your company is seeking. I have a few questions also about the job opportunity. Working from home sounds very convenient could you send me more info on what I will be doing on my computer since this is the first "at home" job for me? I was also wondering if there is full time available as well? And when you get paid do you send checks or do you use direct depositing? I am very interested in this opportunity and hope to hear back from you as soon as possible. My information is below.

so now i have sent these emails:

(before i looked this up)Thank you for responding in a timely manner. I would love to know more on how you operate so that I can be on your level and understand all about your company. Do you have a website possibly? Thank you for accepting my application I look forward to working with your company.
(after)To whoever it may concern: I am a very honest and loyal person who was looking for a legit opportunity and I am greatly dissappointed that I was given accurate information regarding your company as being a scam and would appreciate it if you would not send me anything further and I am reporting this as well. Also I will be posting this along with your cover letter for all to know as well. Good day.
SO THIS IS WHAT I DID I HOPE THAT THEY DONT REPLY. IM NOT SURE WHO TO REPORT THIS TOO.

Okay guys and dolls, glad for this blog. Man we could have gotten nailed on this one.

Okay, I have contacted the real Kelly Ko at their email address to see how far they can take it with their laws. I am forwarding a copy of this to gmail to see if they might trace it and put a report in themselves. I have also reported the FRAUD KELLY to the FBI as this falls under their guidelines.

Lets just see how far this will go.

I will keep yall posted.
