Job scam quick guide: it's a scam if...

  • they want you to collect and forward money in any way (a "money mule" job). You'll wind up engaged in money laundering, personally defrauded via expertly forged cheques, money orders, etc, or defrauding someone else who pays for goods that never arrive.
  • they want you to receive packages and reship them somewhere else. The goods will have been obtained fraudulently, and they're just using you to make the shipping address appear local. You will be aiding fraud.
  • they want up-front payment (either to them or someone else) of any sort for anything before you can get the job. This is advance fee fraud: there is no job -- it's just a big con to extract money from you.
  • they want you to buy any kind of "membership" or "kit" in order to start. Forget it -- it's not a real job at all: they're trying to sell you something, and they're probably making a bunch of other false claims about it if they're pitching it as a "job".
  • it's a job offer, and it's spam. There are LOTS of these scams about, as you can see.

Noni Health Care

This is just another dodgy Nigerian (IP address 41.219.193.87) wanting you to bank his fake checks in exchange for real money. What's amusing is that he's linked to noni.com in the process, suggesting that it's some sort of charity. It's not: they are purveyors of an exotic (and bad smelling) "health food" sold through network marketing. I should therefore emphasise that this listing is for our friend the dodgy Nigerian scammer pretending to be "Noni Health Care", not the actual sellers of the nasty Tahitian Noni gunk.

I just received a check for $3400.00 from a bank in Snellville, GA. The instructions say to send the funds to an address in Horton, AL. The payer is Search Wizards, Inc. in Atlanta, GA. Is there any legal recourse to take with this information?

I got sucked in myself. When Robert James sent me an email. The first checks ($8,000) were fake, as I was told after depositing them to my bank. Robert James had someone with an Account at Wells Fargo bank in S.D. who sent me $5,000 for re-distribution. Guess what? I called up the bank to see if the funds were available. They were. I deposited the check. It never cleared because the funds must have been withdrawn.
