Job scam quick guide: it's a scam if...

  • they want you to collect and forward money in any way (a "money mule" job). You'll wind up engaged in money laundering, personally defrauded via expertly forged cheques, money orders, etc, or defrauding someone else who pays for goods that never arrive.
  • they want you to receive packages and reship them somewhere else. The goods will have been obtained fraudulently, and they're just using you to make the shipping address appear local. You will be aiding fraud.
  • they want up-front payment (either to them or someone else) of any sort for anything before you can get the job. This is advance fee fraud: there is no job -- it's just a big con to extract money from you.
  • they want you to buy any kind of "membership" or "kit" in order to start. Forget it -- it's not a real job at all: they're trying to sell you something, and they're probably making a bunch of other false claims about it if they're pitching it as a "job".
  • it's a job offer, and it's spam. There are LOTS of these scams about, as you can see.

Sydney Car Centre (impostors)

A correspondent reported this one. Here's a hint: a place called "Sydney Car Centre" isn't likely to have a Hong Kong country code website. This is a money mule scam.

I have also seen the same scam using the domain "SYDNEYCC.HK".

I've gotten dozens of them as well, using GMAIL. I wonder if GMAIL is perhaps allowing them to contact us and knows about it or has given them our information...

Gmail is not divulging information. Spammers have advanced techniques for harvesting email addresses. If you've sent email to anyone who has contracted a virus on their computer, your email address is probably on a spam list.

Seems like SCC also operates out of Taiwan: sydneycarcentre.tw

Ok, I'm getting a new company now.
Called Leader Company, using the same ruse. Just got it about 20 minutes ago. Anyone else ever hear of this company?

They're now using the domain "sydneycar.kg". I don't even know what country that is off the top of my head. The spam is followed by a bunch of mostly numeric rubbish in white-on-white text, which I haven't included.

Yes, it looks like a reshipper scam. Avoid any job which involves being a middle-man for re-shipment of goods or transferring money. They are all scams.

What about vision logistics?

Spotter said...

A simple name really isn't enough to go on, Anonymous. It's possible that there is a perfectly legitimate company called "Vision Logistics" out there, but your would-be employer has nothing to do with them. In the absence of good evidence to the contrary, you're safest to assume that it's a scam. Scammers throw those job offers around like confetti, after all.

I answered this add because I need a job desperately.

Vision Logistics Solutions is a scam. I had this checked out by a reliable source they said it seems to be legit. Well, it isn't. I called one of the companies that sells one of items I was to relabel and ship out. The persons name that was listed as the recipient at my address, had her credit card stolen. They have a great website and all the right paperwork and will talk to you live. Now, I am worry about my identity being taken as well. The old saying if it sounds too good to be true, IT IS!
