Job scam quick guide: it's a scam if...

  • they want you to collect and forward money in any way (a "money mule" job). You'll wind up engaged in money laundering, personally defrauded via expertly forged cheques, money orders, etc, or defrauding someone else who pays for goods that never arrive.
  • they want you to receive packages and reship them somewhere else. The goods will have been obtained fraudulently, and they're just using you to make the shipping address appear local. You will be aiding fraud.
  • they want up-front payment (either to them or someone else) of any sort for anything before you can get the job. This is advance fee fraud: there is no job -- it's just a big con to extract money from you.
  • they want you to buy any kind of "membership" or "kit" in order to start. Forget it -- it's not a real job at all: they're trying to sell you something, and they're probably making a bunch of other false claims about it if they're pitching it as a "job".
  • it's a job offer, and it's spam. There are LOTS of these scams about, as you can see.

Daikin AB Sales Group (not)

The style of this money mule scam closely resembles that of the Hollywood Sales Group scam. It's targeting Australians, which invariably means that the "employee" receives fraudulent bank transfers (from phished accounts) and is asked to forward money via Western Union, usually to Russia and other former Soviet Union countries. Daikin is a real company (from Japan, not Sweden, although they do have a Swedish branch called "Daikin Sweden A.B."), but they have nothing to do with this scam -- the scammers are just using a well-known name for the cover story.

I personally met with the manager of this company and it is a genuine offer and should not be in your scam list, just a food for thought, not trying to defend anybody, i started working few days ago and it's going good so far, they gave me contract and i signed it and very excited about opportunity.

Any company worth more than $2 will not have a hotmail/gmail/free mail address.

Sorry, Melissa, but I don't believe you. You say you met in person? Where? Sweden? This is a scam, nearly identical to dozens of others that I've posted over the last couple of years. In fact, it's not just a scam, it's organised crime.

'Melissa Byron' does not exist - the scammer has written this - broken 'asian' english - definitely not from an australian.

Thanks for exposing this crook - I can show you everything this crook wrote to me - how can we see that he gets his just come uppance?

He's not only a crook but arrogant at that.

I would like to ask what will await for me? What should I do if I recieve any money to my account? I haven't recieved any money yet, but what if the heck my account or something and steal my money? Or what if they steal my identity???

I really don't know what to do now, I know I was stupid. I just don't know what was I thinking??? Maybe because I really in need for money, that's why. I wanted to belive that the dream will come true... And now I am in jam!

If you have any idea, please write it. What should I do? Thanks! Anonymus2

With most of these scammers, usually the safest thing to do is stop talking to them, or tell them that you know they are a scam, so go away. If they send you any cheques, rip them up. If they send any money to your bank account, contact your bank and tell them the transaction is suspicious, and you'd like it reversed. It's all fake and/or stolen, and you don't want anything to do with it.

Thank you Spotter for your answer.

But I am not patient at all!
Can they steal my identity or illegaly do anything with my data?

I hope not!
So if I recieve any money I should contact my bank.
But they can't take away any money out of my account, can they? The banks are always asking for the owners signature, or something... I guess there is enough security for controlling the moving of money...
But for sure, I learned a lesson!

Thanks! Kind regards,

Identity theft is a very diverse problem, but it's not the primary interest of these scammers so far as I'm aware. Their main game is phishing and money laundering. Keep an eye on your bank account, and report any anomalies to the bank, but I don't think there's a lot of risk so long as you don't cooperate further with the scammers.

I am a European. I got that scam, too. And thanks to that blog I have no question what it is. The text was exactly that is mentioned above. There are a lot of good opportunities to earn honest money. That is not that. I agree, it is a crime.
Kind regards.

Just got a text message from some guy named Donald Elvis from Daikin Industries about a job. He wanted me to setup Google Hangouts and conduct an interview. He couldn't tell me what job I applied to, when I applied, or anything. He also wanted my email address. Something just seemed fishy. I didn't apply to this company and if I had of applied they would already have my email address. Once I pointed this information out he stopped texting me. It is a scam!!!!!!!!!!!!
