Job scam quick guide: it's a scam if...

  • they want you to collect and forward money in any way (a "money mule" job). You'll wind up engaged in money laundering, personally defrauded via expertly forged cheques, money orders, etc, or defrauding someone else who pays for goods that never arrive.
  • they want you to receive packages and reship them somewhere else. The goods will have been obtained fraudulently, and they're just using you to make the shipping address appear local. You will be aiding fraud.
  • they want up-front payment (either to them or someone else) of any sort for anything before you can get the job. This is advance fee fraud: there is no job -- it's just a big con to extract money from you.
  • they want you to buy any kind of "membership" or "kit" in order to start. Forget it -- it's not a real job at all: they're trying to sell you something, and they're probably making a bunch of other false claims about it if they're pitching it as a "job".
  • it's a job offer, and it's spam. There are LOTS of these scams about, as you can see.

Sinopec Co., Ltd.

This one came straight from Nigeria -- literally (IP address "Sinopec Co., Ltd." is just some random company that the scammer has decided to impersonate. There is probably a real company by that name, and they'll probably be ticked off when they hear about this scam -- a money mule scam. Because it's from Nigeria and targets the USA, the expected pattern is check forgery: scammer sends fake check to unwitting sap, unwitting sap banks it, draws out 90% of the value, then sends that money via Western Union back to the scammer. Check later bounces, leaving the unwitting sap severely out of pocket.

This is super funny cuz my mom actually works for this company at NYC.
I'll show her this article and I'm sure she'll be "overwhelmed" by the company's reputation that has earned by someone that she has no knowledge of existence.
Anyway, nice shot.
knowing my mom as one of the chief of the NYC office and what a dedicated person she is, I found this rather hilarious than annoying.
Oh and that chinese address is no longer effective anymore, they moved last year,to a more fancy location with crazier traffic.

Your eMail message dated were received and acknowledge, Thank you.

Having gone through your eMail message and observation made. I appreciate the fact that you have shown wiliness to partner with me having mentioned the type of project that I have and their locations. This is the role you are playing as the middle person which I will advice you to read carefully as detailed below then respond accordingly.

Based on this development, Kindly read carefully as follows’ Sinopec Group Inc, intend to purchase (SARIR) crude oil from Libya via Azzawya Oil Refinery Company Libya. However, I’m the senior manager for Procurements and I have been mandated by the management of Sinopec to initiate talk with the Azzawya Oil Refinery Company Libya, for 12 months contract of 2 million barrels of (SARIR) crude oil per month.

Here is the deal, Mr. Mohammed Abdu, whom amongst the Azzawya Oil Refinery Company Libya, is the manager foreign purchasing coordinator who now advised me to present a neutral entity (individual or company) so that the entity will be awarded a 3 years crude oil lifting contract with Azzawya Oil Refinery Company Libya, Then I will introduce this entity to SINOPEC, as a license holder for oil exporter.

Note That the license holder will be entitled to USD$6 - USD$8 per barrel amounting to USD$12 to USD$16 Million monthly revenue from each 2 million barrels monthly lifted to Sinopec, and I and Mohammed Abdu, are willing to share 50/50 with the entity if you agree to work with us on this project.

Thirdly, SINOPEC is eager to start buying Libyan crude which is available for lifting. What is outstanding right now is the middle person and If I introduce Azzawya Oil Refinery Company Libya, to SINOPEC, directly nothing will come out from the deal for me. As you can see, I am approaching retirement age so I need to setup sustainable retirement plan for myself. We can either secure the license in your name and from securing the license to receive our first commission will take a maximum period of 2 weeks. Let me know your position on this briefing ASAP, So I can prepare the working agreement to enable us start immediately.

Finally, you are to send to me a copy of your identification for assessment if truly you are interested on this project.

Your swift response will be highly appreciated
