Job scam quick guide: it's a scam if...

  • they want you to collect and forward money in any way (a "money mule" job). You'll wind up engaged in money laundering, personally defrauded via expertly forged cheques, money orders, etc, or defrauding someone else who pays for goods that never arrive.
  • they want you to receive packages and reship them somewhere else. The goods will have been obtained fraudulently, and they're just using you to make the shipping address appear local. You will be aiding fraud.
  • they want up-front payment (either to them or someone else) of any sort for anything before you can get the job. This is advance fee fraud: there is no job -- it's just a big con to extract money from you.
  • they want you to buy any kind of "membership" or "kit" in order to start. Forget it -- it's not a real job at all: they're trying to sell you something, and they're probably making a bunch of other false claims about it if they're pitching it as a "job".
  • it's a job offer, and it's spam. There are LOTS of these scams about, as you can see.

Transcargo International Logistics

This is a "reshipper" scam. The "employers" make fraudulent purchases using stolen credit card information, and have the goods shipped to the "employee". The "employee" then forwards these goods overseas. When the fraud is discovered, the law enforcement trail leads to the "employee", so if you take this job, expect a visit from men in uniform sooner or later.

I received several e-mails this week (Thanksgiving 2010) that are in response to my resume in Careerbuilder. The company listed is Keinako Logistics LLC (which is not listed in Hoovers as a legit business) Phone: 1 347-983-2908
When copying one of the sentences from their form letter I came upon this site... listing a different company name and info for a "Money Mule". When searching the company name listed in the form letter which is: Keinako Logistics LLC - the link provided is http://parcelfor.net/index.htm (a parcel forwarding company) In other words ~ a Money Mule!
The other e-mails I received did not have the Keinako Logistics LLC branding but the wording was similar and all e-mail addresses ended with @gmx.com
I'm staying away!

It seems most of these scammers are getting people's information from CareerBuilder.com. I was not getting so many fraud solicitations until I posted my resume on that site, and now I get 2 or 3 per week. Transcargo International Logistics is now calling themselves simply Int. Logistics, and is frightenly asking for suckers to forward their resume again.

Careerbuilder.com seems to be the source of information for these scammers. Since getting an account with them, I have begun to get several of these sorts of scam emails per week, and in a few cases, actual phone calls from the scammy companies when I do not reply to their email. No legit direct job offers from the site either...it's a good site to browse available jobs, but don't kid yourself. The only recruiters looking at it are the scammers.

This blog is awesome. Thank you for making this public. I received the same exact offer just today. Is there not a way we can report these people?

Anonymous said...

I agree. Thanks for the heads up! I saw an ad for a similar job posted on a career site. Are all companies that do this or offer jobs like this scams? Does anyone know the name of any other companies that are also a scam? Thank you

You should assume that any job offer which looks like this is a scam unless you can prove otherwise.

After researching of the company cargo international logistics worked with Tracy Estes is a scam, my husband who was dealing with this sent Tracy an email that he's no longer interested in this job that he knows it's a scam. My husband is in the process of filing a complaint to the FBI and forwarding all the tracking packages that was sent out. This is way too scary and don't want to be involve. We have a family and needing extra income and now we're victimized!

Hi there. The post on Jan 19sounds similar to the "offer" that's currently being pushed on me! I can't believe it.

I've been out of work for over a year, and it's getting so hard to keep going. NO ONE really has extra time to worry about protecting themselves from criminals. We need all the energy that we can stir-up to stay focus on getting a REAL JOB!! Please, reply to this post if your husband had any luck and a good experience contacting the law enforcement authorities.

And, best of luck
To Everyone on the job search!

Good call, Anonymous. If you do a search on the email address under which that domain is registered (qigardengrove@hotmail.com), you'll find a lot of complaints from people who did work for something called "Transchainsolutions" and never got paid. They've changed names again, but the scam remains the same, no doubt.

The "Rush Shipping Service Inc" seems to be associated with the domain name RUSHSHIPPINGSERVICE.COM. Their website is badly written, and claims that they've been "providing forwarding services for more than 3 years now." Their WHOIS record, on the other hand, says that the domain was created on 2014-11-25 -- a couple of weeks ago.

Scam.

Unknown said...

Is this a scam?

Spotter said...

This website is all about scams. If it's discussed on this site, then the chances are it's a scam.

Unknown said...

Technically it wasn't discussed someone just put the email up on here. The reason why I'm asking is because I'm working for this paticular company.. I have had stuff sent to me and I have been sending out.. I'm just not sure if its an actual scam or not.

Spotter said...

If it follows the pattern of "they send you stuff and want you to re-ship it overseas", then it's a reshipper scam. The usual story behind the "logistics" cover story is that they are purchasing goods on stolen credit cards, and they are making sure that the shipping address that they supply to the merchant is in the same general area as the billing address on the card, so as to reduce the chances of the transaction being flagged as fraudulent. Once you've received the goods, you forward it on to another country, making the goods hard to recover.

The down-side from your perspective is that (a) the criminals usually don't bother to pay you, because (b) there's an awful lot of fraud going on with your address on it, so law enforcement will probably be paying you a visit soon, and if you're lucky they'll let you off with a warning so long as you stop. My usual advice is to stop accepting delivery of these goods ASAP, and hold on to the ones you already have on the assumption that the sender will want them back when they discover the fraud.

If you want advice that's more specific to your case, you'll have to spell out some details like the domain name of the alleged company that you're working for, the email addresses (domain name only will do) of your correspondents, and other such details. As it stands, I'm not even sure which email you're referring to.

Hi everyone. I got the same kind of message from Rush Package Service, Inc and did not receive any kind of clarification about the kind of work involved. However, I did receive a 'contract' attached to the email message that almost immediately followed a phone call. I wrote to turn down the job. I found your blog immediately after so I am very glad I did not sign that 'contract'. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is. I should have been more wary. Cavendum dolus everyone!
