Job scam quick guide: it's a scam if...

  • they want you to collect and forward money in any way (a "money mule" job). You'll wind up engaged in money laundering, personally defrauded via expertly forged cheques, money orders, etc, or defrauding someone else who pays for goods that never arrive.
  • they want you to receive packages and reship them somewhere else. The goods will have been obtained fraudulently, and they're just using you to make the shipping address appear local. You will be aiding fraud.
  • they want up-front payment (either to them or someone else) of any sort for anything before you can get the job. This is advance fee fraud: there is no job -- it's just a big con to extract money from you.
  • they want you to buy any kind of "membership" or "kit" in order to start. Forget it -- it's not a real job at all: they're trying to sell you something, and they're probably making a bunch of other false claims about it if they're pitching it as a "job".
  • it's a job offer, and it's spam. There are LOTS of these scams about, as you can see.

Hi, I would also like to paste here an e-mail that's obviously been so thoroughly put together to make it appear so business-like and professional:

Hello,
We received your e-mail and it is good to read from you and your interest in our job offer. My name is Mr Brad Varney, i am the Head Recruiting Manager of Allco Finance Group. Lets give you more details, Allco Finance Group (Allco) is a fully integrated global financial services business listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX:AFG) and specializing in structured asset finance, funds management, debt and equity funding. We would like to stress that the company pays special attention to customer support of private customers, though we also have the corresponding business plans for the bigger companies as well. A more detailed information about our company may be obtained at our official Website: http://www.allco.com.au

Due to the necessity for expansion of our company, we have announced some additional openings for new employees. We are glad to offer you one of the vacant positions in our company's team - a position of the "Virtual Assistant" This position offers you 10% of your trancastions, you're offered a very good pay as transactions are steady, continuous and constant. An average transaction is for $3,000.00 and over and you can handle as many as 3 transactions in a week as most payment are made installmentally. The pay is great enough to encourage you to work hard and be efficient .

You will have the responsibility for the following duties:
1. Receive Payment in form of Cheques from our Clients in United States
2. Deduct 10% which will be your percentage/pay on payment processed
3. Forward balance after deduction of percentage/pay to any of the offices, you will be contacted where to forward payment to..

The best form of payment used are Business checks, money orders and direct bank transfers they are readily available and confirmed on the spot, they are not the only means used but they are the best for our process. Most of the Client(s) we work with are those we've previously handled successful transactions with, new Clients are verified and confirmed before the linking process occurs. You have nothing to worry about. The modus operanda goes thus; you receive the payment from clients directly from the individual clients, in your mail, usually via ups and have them cashed. You send the payment to our suppliers/vendors when I need you to, or directly to the company and your pay is 10% of the amount sent to you. All charges during cashing, sending of payments and transaction completion will be deducted from the balance after you've gotten your pay and not deducted from your pay so your pay is fixed on the amount cashed per transaction. You can handle as many as 3 or more transactions per week, but you'll be handling one (1) initially to see how efficiently and how quickly you can carry out the completion.

On 3 transactions you're sure of nothing less than $600 weekly. The hours are flexible and you can decide when you want to work as what you'll be doing initially is cashing the payments and completing the transaction to the supplier. I don't need you online 24/7, just to be online on a daily basis and to at least check your e-mail regularly. Working with me will also not disturb your other jobs, (If you have any) as I require that applicant only have easy access to the internet, be reachable easily and respond/carry out instructions sent as soon as possible.

10(Ten) most asked Questions.

1.

Quest... Do I have to pay money to get this Job or spend my money in completing it in anyway(s)?

Ans... No! You don't pay a cent to work, you're chosen if we think you're the right match for the Job and you do not spend your money.

2.

Quest... Is there a training period?

Ans... Yes & No. Yes it's via email and No, it's not nearly a training but a description of duties.

3

Quest...Do you send a W2 form or a 1099 form for tax purposes?

Ans...If you're picked, your tax is handled by the company contractually on a quarterly basis.

4

Quest...It seems so easy, is this real?

Ans...Very many are called, so few chosen. Guess if you sort the applications you'd know it's not easy a position? If you're called YOU must be right for it.

5

Quest...Do I contact the buyers, vendors/suppliers or both?

Ans...NO, you do not. Contacting buyers and vendors require you to have been with us for at least 6months.

6

Quest...Is the maximum number of transactions I can handle 3(three) a week?

Ans.....This depends on your output, the harder you work. The more transactions you source yourself. As more buyers are directed to you.

7

Quest... Are Business checks and Money orders the only payment method and are personal checks used as a payment?

Ans....Other methods have been tried and this is the best method for the linking process we run.

8

Quest...Is there a pay review or the pay is fixed at 10% permanently?

Ans...Over time and transactions, highly efficient assistants get to partner with us, not in rights but in pay, as we adjust and conform to a 12% each, pay structure.

9

Quest....Do you share or sell my personal/contact Information?

Ans...Your privacy is very much ours. We treat your privacy very confidential.

10

Quest...Do I handle actual goods paid for, mailings or receive anything in the mail aside the payments sent to me for completion?

Ans....No you do not. You just cash the payments and direct to the right department (Vendor/Supplier).

Listen guys..I want everyone to know that THIS IS A SCAM! I received a check of $1860..actually cashed it, sent the money through money gram, and the check BOUNCED a week later. THIS IS NOT REAL!!! BEWARE!!

Unknown said...

Thank you guys for posting this. I received the exact email as well. It's very deceiving! I received a check yesterday for $2400 through FEDEX overnight shipping, and I'm wondering where I got the money from. Until Mr. Jayceon Williams from Allco called this morning, he seems impatient that I never cash the check yet. The job is actually attractive: easy job, easy pay. Anyone can fall for it. If I didn't knew, I should have been one of the victims.

I want to share some news, I was contacted by Mr. Jayceon Williams about working for ALLCO Finance Group this week and I received a check for $2779.00. Immediately I knew it was a scam, by calling the bank name, a bank out of SC and NC, on check and noting that my business name was spelled incorrectly. The bank stated that they did not have large check numbers and account numbers. Job seekers - BEWARE!

Dear Applicant,

Thanks for getting back to us Ontime,My Name is Richard Mclain Allco Finance Group,i link suppliers who have been personally tested to buyers and can stand for 100% .Allco Finance provides ecommerce businesses with a wide range of online marketing services including Search Marketing (SEM), Lead Generation and Affiliate Marketing. Advertisers can increase their online sales by leveraging Allco's massive performance marketing network, along with expert consultative services and patented technology. Superior service combined with technology innovation allows advertisers and publishers to acquire and retain new customers, increase revenue and drive results.Allco clients include Fortune 500 and other prominent and emerging companies doing business online, including J.C. Penney, 1-800-Flowers.com, American Express, and Avon Products. Allco 's headquartered in New York City, with offices in San Francisco, Chicago, Tampa, London and Tokyo. We source for buyers and suppliers at the same time so I can link them to make profit. On every actual purchase made, we have a profit of 20% .I source for buyers and suppliers within and outside the United States of America. I am constantly on the move organizing seminars to bring buyers and suppliers together. I need someone that can complete billings, invoicing and payments on my behalf and get them to the vendors, as well as being capable to receive payments from my buyers from time to time, so the linking is effective and immediate. The only way I am entitled to the 20% payment is if the actual deal is concluded through me.. When suppliers and buyers go head to head, I am at a loss as they can transact directly with one another without my knowledge. This position offers you 10%, you're offered a very good pay as transactions are steady, continuous and constant. An average transaction is for $2,000.00 and over and you can handle as many as 3 transactions in a week as most payments are made in installment. The pay is good enough to encourage you to work hard and be efficient while it's more than enough for me to stay in business while encouraging me to source harder and link more suppliers. I travel a lot and when buyers want to make any purchase, when i'm on company errand, he\she has to hold-on till I return, to place an order, on the long term. The effect is our customers start sourcing for suppliers on their own, so having an assistant/representative easily reachable has its numerous advantages. We have lost too many deals due to this and i'm trying to put an end to it.

The best form of payment used are business checks and direct bank transfers they are readily available and confirmed on the spot, they are not the only means used but they are the best for our process. Most of the buyers we work with are those we've previously handled successful transactions with in the past, new buyers are verified and confirmed before the linking process occurs. You have nothing to worry about. The mode of operation is as follows; you receive the payment directly from the individual buyer, in your mail, usually via ups and have them cashed. You send the payment to our suppliers/vendors when I need you to, or directly to the company and your pay is 10% of the amount sent to you...

OOoooooo.... I'm so glad I found it odd for someone to mail me a check (written out in my name), and then looked up the company (Allco Financial Group) again to find this blog. Richard McClain was the post that most caught my eye. He contacted me as well and I almost deposited the check...until I read this. Although the company exists, which is scary because you never know who works where unless you are walking into a place of employment, impostors are out there. Caution folks. Be smart and look up any and every company you are applying for. Especially if they are sending you what could be considered "free money!"

I knew something was wrong because I did not contact this company and the email's grammar was HORRIBLE! No self respecting company would email anything like that to potential employees. Also when it said "work from home" that's when I knew...
