Thanks to M from Australia for providing this one -- I haven't seen it in my spam traps yet. This is a typical money mule scam targeting Australians and New Zealanders. These are almost invariably payment processing jobs where the "employers" want people to accept direct bank transfers and then forward money via Western Union. The incoming transfers are fraudulent -- the money is taken from online accounts that have been phished. If you receive such a transfer, don't withdraw the money, but notify your bank immediately that the transaction is suspicious. They'll send the money back to its rightful owner.

There are probably other domain names than the following -- this is the only one I know of at the time of posting.

I've been a slacker when it comes to reporting new scams of late. I first saw this one at least a week ago, but other sites are doing a fine job of keeping tabs on it. The short story is that it's the usual money mule scam. For the long, long story, see Bob Bear's description. If you're already involved, don't send these scammers any money, and if they deposit money into your account, notify your bank that the transaction is suspicious.

This spam was not sent by CareerBuilder as claimed: it originated from the Turk Telekom network, and used a return address in the domain "b-m.fr", so there is nothing to associate it with CareerBuilder at all. The message does not make it clear what the company name is, or what kind of work is involved. My guess is that "V.I.B." is supposed to stand for something related to the domain name "vendasoinvestas.com", but, scams being scams, neither of these names is particularly meaningful or important, and they may change at the drop of a hat. The job itself fits the usual profile of a money mule scam, despite the lack of information.

That page has the title, "Vendas o Investas de Brazil", which is presumably what V.I.B. is supposed to stand for. This page also confirms that the scam is a money mule job: "During all working process you will operate with money transfers, so you have to provide us with valid bank account which you will be using especially for our company needs and transfers you process and forward."

Quite a twisty little maze of recent registrations, this. The domain "bigmam.org" currently advertises "localhost" for its MX host (mail), so that's pretty much a dead end. On the other hand, "veev.ru" has no MX record, but does have an address record, so it could theoretically receive mail. The record has a "time to live" of ten minutes, however, which potentially makes it a fast-flux target.

This looks pretty much like a textbook case of a pyramid scam, where money is made by persuading other people to buy into the system. As is typical for this kind of thing, the participants also resort to spamming, which is how I got this invitation in the first place.
